Our family has been farming in Lake Tekapo for over 80 years and have good knowledge of Fishing in the area. Our guides are well trained and have excellent know how on providing a great Fishing experience. We are fortunate that we situated minutes from some of the best trout and salmon fishing in the world so tours can be arranged at short notice.
Location
We farm Balmoral and Mt Hay Stations which has a combined area of over 50,000 acres on the East and West sides of Lake Tekapo, South Island New Zealand. The farm extends from the town north on both sides of Lake Tekapo as well as bordering the Tekapo canals.
Guided Fishing Tours - Tekapo Canal
The Tekapo Canal is located 5 minutes drive from our Tekapo office. The Tekapo Canal has some of the largest Rainbow and Brown trout in the world. Some of these trout are over 30lb/10Kg and some have broken the world record.
We have mastered the art of catching these monster fish and would like to teach you how to catch them. We provide the complete package of fishing gear to ensure you have the greatest chance of catching the big one!
Personal gear required to bring but if you are stuck we can help you out with this as well.

We run daily guided Fishing tours that leave from our town office in Lake Tekapo and run for 2 hours.
Fishing Licenses are required in New Zealand and can be purchased from Fish & Game. We can prearrange fishing licenses on a daily/weekly/Seasonal basis.

Canal Fishing
The Tekapo and Twizel Canal System is located in the South Island of New Zealand and is home to some of the largest brown and rainbow trout in the world with many fish weighing in over the 20lb mark and a number over the magic 30lb mark being landed each season. The reason for the fish being so big is the abundance of snails, smelt and salmon feed that has fallen through the farms creating a perfect environment for fish growth. The canals are an unmatched sports fishery and nowhere else on the planet will you find such a large population of monster trout. This is truly a world class trout fishery that needs to be experienced at least once in a lifetime.

Fishing Schools
A canal fishing school will teach you all the basics of rod and reel setup, knots, leaders, spin fishing, softbaiting and the art of “egg rolling”. If you are coming to the canals for the first time or are struggling to convert days on the water to fish on the bank then this is the trip for you. If you wish to bring your own gear you are welcome to as you will be more familiar with it. A canal fishing school is $950NZD total for one angler and $1100NZD total for two anglers. School length is one full day.
